TBC Holds Bi-Lingual Anti-Gentrification Legal Clinic in Sunset Park

The front line of gentrification in New York is placed between landlords and rent-stabilized tenants. And we lose precious ground simply by not knowing our housing rights. Knowledge is sometimes the difference between victimhood and empowerment. Between home and homelessness.

"On the one hand," said Ian Gray-Stack, "there are laws and you have rights and you can pursue them through the courts, and for that you need a lawyer. On the other hand, you have neighbors and friends and you can focus them like lasers on your landlord or HPD, and for that you need an organizer."

By providing both legal services and a framework for building power, Together Because hopes to cultivate a holistic approach to fighting displacement.
